US Army Europe Band (33rd Army Band) (Source: Ivory Alexander) In late Spring 1971, the 33rd Army Band was the first uniformed American unit to enter Yugoslavia since World War II. The USAREUR Band took part in an international festival in Sarajevo commemorating Allied aid to Yugoslavia in 1941. The final event, a concert held at the city's huge coliseum, was performed in front of a packed house of 10,000 people. As they marched on stage, the band received the usual courteous round of applause. But when they formed a large wheel and began playing "Spinning Wheel," they brought the house down (STARS & STRIPES, July 1, 1971).
